The work "accept. The score of acceptance" was created for the exhibition "Embrace and Cry" at Sinara art gallery, a special project of the 6th Urals Industrial Biennale of Contemporary Art in Yekaterinburg.
Curator Lev Shusharychev: "Nu Simakina's performance is the answer to the question: what to do? What to do with negativity, depression, burnout, criticism, rejection, tears, instability of life. The artist proposes to start with acceptance of these problems, using a complex of somatic and performative practices. Acceptance does not mean humility, it is a search for possibilities of "cohabitation" with a problem that you cannot solve here and now, it is a recycling of the accumulated burden. Nu creates a score of actions, the execution of which will lead to the release of negative emotions. Although the starting point for this performance is the project's theme of crises in the artist's life and work, "The Acceptance Score is universal; it can be used by any performance viewer."
The main object was a score specially created for the exhibition. During the opening day, I performed it with the participation of the audience. Here is the score itself, and below is the documentation of the live performance, which hung at the exhibition for the main part of the exposition.
As a result of the first trials, practices and performance, I realized how many emotions refusals cause and how difficult it is for people to refuse each other. In the future I am curious to understand better - why does this happen? Part of the performance in Ekaterinburg consisted of me approaching people in the exhibition and asking them for something - whether they agreed and did it or not. I noticed that it was terribly difficult for people to refuse even absurd suggestions like "urgently lend me a thousand rubles". The audience gave me good feedback on this: "How can you refuse such a nice person?" Next, I guess I should try different modes of existence, and other people for the experiment.
